Secure Data-Access Portal
Virtual Parking Permits

Project Overview
This project involved engineering a comprehensive digital parking permit portal for large municipal governments. The system allows local residents to apply for residential permits, automatically verifies their home address against property tax records, and processes secure online payments.
The main issue with the legacy manual system was that it took city clerks weeks to process physical applications. The new digital portal had to be highly secure, capable of handling sudden spikes in traffic (e.g., at the end of the month), and fully accessible to all residents, including elderly users and those using screen readers.
Testing Strategy & Focus
I implemented a full-stack testing approach covering functional logic, payment security, and strict accessibility compliance.
• I meticulously tested the citizen application flow, specifically focusing on the automated eligibility checks and the third-party address verification APIs. I ensured the system correctly rejected out-of-zone addresses while handling edge cases like new constructions or multi-unit apartments.
• I verified the payment gateway integration, ensuring that credit card transactions were processed securely, receipts were generated, and digital permits were issued immediately upon a successful webhook callback.
• I conducted intensive manual accessibility testing against WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines. I used screen readers (NVDA and VoiceOver) and keyboard-only navigation to ensure the portal was equitable and fully usable for citizens with disabilities.
Business Impact
The successful launch of the portal reduced the manual workload for city administrators by over 50%, completely eliminating paper-based applications.
By rigorously testing and fixing the automated eligibility logic before the public launch, we prevented fraudulent permit applications and eliminated the need for manual clerical reviews, saving the city thousands of labor hours.
