Project Overview
TalkEHR is a specialized Electronic Health Record (EHR) system engineered to support the unique clinical workflows of over 70 different medical specialties. It includes advanced features like e-prescribing (eRx), computerized lab ordering (CPOE), and automated compliance reporting for federal quality programs.
A major business requirement for the software was maintaining its federal ONC (Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology) certification. This meant our testing processes had to meticulously follow strict government guidelines for usability, interoperability, and data security.
Testing Strategy & Focus
I focused my testing efforts on clinical workflow accuracy, UI responsiveness, and strict regulatory compliance validation.
• I tested the highly customizable clinical charting templates across dozens of specialties, ensuring that doctors could enter patient data quickly without encountering UI glitches or data loss during autosaves.
• I validated the CPOE (Computerized Provider Order Entry) lab interfaces, making sure they communicated flawlessly with external diagnostic laboratories using the HL7 messaging standard.
• I executed highly specific, mandated test suites designed to verify that the software correctly calculated and exported MIPS/MACRA compliance metrics, which are required by the government for provider reimbursements.
Business Impact
The comprehensive testing documentation, test plans, and validation work I completed were directly utilized to help TalkEHR successfully pass its rigorous federal ONC certification audits.
Furthermore, we maintained exceptionally high accuracy in the clinical documentation modules, minimizing the risk of medical charting errors and ensuring patient safety.
