Project Overview
Enwage is a comprehensive cloud-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Human Capital Management (HCM) platform. It handles critical business operations including HR onboarding, complex payroll processing, benefits administration, and time tracking. It also integrates heavily with third-party tools like QuickBooks and HubSpot.
Payroll software operates in a zero-tolerance environment for defects. A single bug in tax calculation logic, overtime rules, or timecard aggregation could result in severe legal penalties for our clients, angry employees, and massive support overhead.
Testing Strategy & Focus
My testing strategy focused entirely on financial compliance, mathematical calculation accuracy, and the reliability of external API integrations.
• I ran extensive manual and automated tests on the core US payroll calculator. I verified multi-state tax deductions, custom overtime rules, and complex benefits accruals by running hundreds of test scenarios against known, mathematically verified baseline data.
• I tested the time and attendance module rigorously, ensuring that hours logged by employees (including shift differentials and holiday pay) synchronized perfectly with the payroll processing engine without dropping data.
• I executed deep integration testing on the API endpoints that pushed financial ledger data to QuickBooks, ensuring no records were lost, duplicated, or miscategorized during daily data syncs.
Business Impact
We successfully caught and fixed several critical calculation and tax-logic defects during the staging phase, preventing them from ever impacting live client payroll runs.
The thorough API integration tests ensured that client accounting teams always had perfectly synchronized data. This proactive testing reduced support tickets related to data sync issues and ledger imbalances by over 90% post-launch.
